Pepero Kimchi Very Bbechi (Snack Tub Korea #6)

Today we eat three flavors of Pepero (빼빼로): the original chocolate, almond and nude. Pepero is similar to the Japanese Pocky, another bisquit stick dipped in chocolate. Interestingly Lotte, the company that owns Pepero, was founded by Shin Kyuk-ho, a Japanese businessman of Korean ancestry. Shin's younger brother is the chairman of Nongshim, which is famed for their Onion Rings and Shrimp Crackers. I eat them in later episodes of Snack Tub Korea. I digress. Let's get in the tub and find out which flavor of Pepero rocks Professor Oh's taste buds!

We begin with the Original Pepero. Please eat with care. Place your hands on the top of the plastic packaging so you do not melt the chocolate. Everyone will enjoy Pepero. Your mom, your future lover, your pet rock. But seriously it's a simple yet likeable snack.

Ever heard of Pepero Day? Celebrated on 11/11 since the ones look like the bisquit sticks, Koreans pass out boxes of these goodies to their family and friends. Special edition Peperos are sold in stores, including gigantic ones. Other people like to homemake their chocolate-covered sticks.

The Nude Pepero is the Original Pepero flipped into out: bisquit on the outside, chocolate in the inside. The Nude sticks are thicker than the Original sticks. Because of the bisquit to chocolate ratio, the Nude Pepero tastes more bland. I prefer the Original.

Last but not least we try the Almond Pepero. She's the edgy and wild one of the three. I confess I'm partial to almonds. However from an objective point of view, Almond Pepero beats the Original.

Original Pepero = 5 out of 5 kpop stars. Recommended for kids.

Nude Pepero = 4 out of 5 kpop stars. For adults who prefer mild flavor.

Almond Pepero = 6 out of 5 kpop stars. Recommended for the next generation human beings.

Time for some improv cooking. Using today’s snacks we make Pepero Kimchi.

Happy responsible snacking! Don’t forget to eat your carrots and peas :)

Professor Oh amazed by the Almond Pepero. The experience is comparable to seeing a unicorn for the first time. I'm not exaggerating at all.

Oh Yes Tastes Like Heaven (Snack Tub Korea #5)

Today we eat Hot Crab Chips (핫꽃게랑/hot-ggot-ge-rang) and Oh Yes (오예스). Crabs versus Chocolate. Spicy versus Sweet. Bring it on. My taste buds were born ready. Hopefully the crab chips aren't too spicy or else it's gonna be an adventure when it comes out of the other end. Watcha waiting for? Let's dive into Professor Oh's snack tub.

Spicy in a friendly manner, Hot Crab Chips is love at first crunch. Crispy yet fluffy, the experience is comparable to biting into a firm cloud. These crabbies are the perfect snack for roadtrips, lunch breaks, beach bums and you name it. Hot Crab Chips, you deserve 6 out of 5 kpop stars. The first Korean snack to surpass 5 kpop stars!

OH YES, we move onto our second snack. You see what I did there? Oh Yes comes from same family of Choco Pie and Ghana (eaten in episode 1).  Their blood is made of refined carbs and chocolate. It turns out Oh Yes is the yummiest of all its siblings. It's a legit 6 out of 5 kpop stars. Episode 5 is the most satisfying snack bath yet!

Time for some improv cooking. Using today's snacks we make ice cream.

Snacks that Look Like Intestines (Snack Tub Korea #4)

Today we eat Soybean Tofu Snack (소이빈 두부스낵) and Wellbin Tofu Snack (웰빈 두부과자). Both look like intestines, but do they taste like it? Only one way to find out: dive into Professor Oh's snack tub!

The Soybean Tofu Snack is mostly bland however becomes increasingly addicting with each succeeding bite. The minimal drops sprinkled black sesame seeds are all for show. If I were to develop this snack, I'd toss in an extra handful of toasted black sesame seeds for each bag. Then rename it as "Toasty Tofu Snack." Has a nice ring to it. Abbreviation: TTS. Why do those letters sound familiar? Oh yeah, TTS also stands for "TaeTiSeo," the cute sub-group of the wink-a-licious Girls' Generation.

Just like the previous bag of tofu crackers, the Wellbin Tofu Snack (WTS) contains a lot of air in it. WTS is thicker, slightly softer and also contains black sesame seeds. Both snacks taste like cardboard.

From a kid's perspective, both tofu snacks get 2 out of 5 kpop stars. From an adults set of taste buds, 4 out of 5 kpop stars.

Time for some improv cooking. This week we create Tofu Crouton Salad. Simple. Make a salad and toss in those crunchy pieces of cardboard!

Happy responsible snacking! Don't forget to eat your veggies before and after :)
